Keloids
Keloids are raised, hypertrophic
scars that are hard to the touch and
purplish-reddish in color. They often form on the
arms, chest, leg, and face, and the result of some
sort of trauma to the skin. On the face, they may
form from cystic acne. On the body, they form
as the result of surgical scars and trauma to the
skin.
How
are they treated?
Keloids can be treated with an
intralesional injection to flatten the scar.
How
many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments
depends on the size and nature of the
scar. On average, 1-3 sessions may be
necessary to completely flatten the scar.
Will
the color go away after treatment?
After the lesion has
flattened, the color will fade over time. You
can speed up this process by using a bleaching
agent to accelerate the whitening of the skin.
The Medispa Institute has many whitening
creams that can be purchased for this purpose.
I've
heard that lasers can help with this type
of scar, is that true?
Although lasers can
help with certain types of scarring, for
keloids, the injection treatment that we
use is a standard accepted procedure
within the medical
community.
